Keeping the public informed
The goal of the University of Missouri’s media relations office is to elevate the prestige of the university through the news media (newspapers, television, radio, websites and social media) with a primary focus on international and national news placements. We also serve as liaison between university personnel and the news media.
Management staff work to balance news coverage by ensuring that reporters have access to those university staff who are closest to the “story” and can give details of the university’s stance on a wide variety of subjects of interest to reporters. The executive director and associate director serve as spokespeople for the university and for faculty and staff, as appropriate. Other staff promote faculty and staff’s research, programs and accomplishments with a variety of tools and methods. We communicate directly to interested alumni, friends and members of the public through our website and by disseminating our press releases and news placements in the most effective way.
